Family and Probate Law - Charlene Caldeira Russo

E-mail: ccaldeira@rfglawyers.com

“Practicing family law is a unique combination of psychology and the law. Our clients are oftentimes going through one of the worst times in their lives. Whether it is the termination of a marriage that involves disputes regarding the custody of children or the division of assets, it is an emotionally and financially draining experience and the issues at stake are exceptionally sensitive. Our goal is to help our clients through that difficult process as quickly and cost effectively as possible. As an attorney, it is an opportunity to be supportive, understanding and empathic while at the same time passionately advocating and protecting our clients' interests.”

Charlene joined RF&G as a partner in 2007. In addition to a background in psychology, Charlene has extensive experience in Family and Probate Law, concentrating her practice in Family Law for the past ten years. Charlene's practice in Family and Probate Law encompasses all aspects of domestic relations litigation and probate litigation including divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements, paternity and guardianships. Charlene served as an adjunct faculty member at New England School of Law where she taught Family Law for several years. Charlene has also served as a faculty member on Suffolk University Law School 's advanced legal studies program entitled “Difficult Issues in Child Custody Cases.” She also served as a faculty member at the MCLE's Family Law Trial Advocacy program.

Charlene has been named by Boston Magazine as a Massachusetts “Super Lawyer Rising Star” in both 2006 and 2007.

In addition to her practice in Family and Probate Law, Charlene has also concentrated her practice on Appellate Practice and co-authored Appellate Procedure, 2nd Edition , of the Massachusetts Practice Series . Charlene organized and chaired an MCLE seminar entitled “Single Justice Practice.”

Charlene began her legal career as a judicial law clerk in the Supreme Judicial Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts , where she worked directly under Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice Neil L. Lynch.

“I tell my clients that litigation should be the last resort. Settling a divorce through collaborative law and working productively with opposing counsel can not only be satisfying for both the litigants and attorneys, but can also save our clients unnecessary emotional and financial hardship. That said, there are always cases in which settlement is not possible and litigation is necessary. We are always ready and prepared to take that step.

Prior to joining RF&G, Charlene was an associate with Casner & Edwards, LLP. Prior to that, she was an associate at the law firm of Todd & Weld, LLP, where she practiced Family and Probate Law, Criminal Law and Appellate Law.

As one of the firm's newest partners, Charlene has quickly made herself at home at RF&G. “We are very selective with the cases we choose to take and the number of clients we have at any given time so that we can give each individual client the appropriate attention they need and deserve. That mindset is really essential, and I think makes our firm unique.”

Charlene is a member of the American Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association. She is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, The United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, and the courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts .

Charlene obtained her B.A. cum laude in psychology from Bridgewater State University (1994) and her J.D. cum laude from Suffolk University Law School (1998).
